Review: Hands on 3D HD

 

Hannover/Ottobrunn. The 7th Hands on HD event offered by nordmedia in cooperation with Band Pro Munich met the trend by including a 3D stereoscopy class under the direction of P+S TECHNIK and Virtual Experience. The growing popularity of 3D rigs was reflected by participation: 12 participants - three times more than in 2008 - enjoyed laying hands on the comprehensive 3D equipment provided by P+S TECHNIK and other sponsors.

The participants at first learnt the basics of stereoscopy. On this basis different 3D rigs were discussed before setting up the P+S TECHNIK Universal Mirror Rigs. Then the workflow between acquisition and post-production was proven in practical applications by shooting with the rigs.

Utilizing two differently set up Universal Mirror Rigs, the class produced a short UFO film as well as some training and exercise sequences during the five days of excessive hands-on experience. The standard box set up was assembled with JVC GY-HD250 and the medium box set up, especially designed for very wide-angle lenses to 7mm focal length, with Sony PMW-EX3 cameras. Post-production has been done with three Mac Pro Final Cut workstations, Transvideo, JVC and the Lang AG provided 3D monitoring and projection solutions.

Diving into Depth of Field with the PRO35

Besides the 3D equipment many other P+S TECHNIK products were available to lay hands on: PRO35, SKATER Mini Dolly with motorisation and the SI-2K Digital Cinema Camera System. Anna Piffl presented the professional equipment to all the attendees.
